India witnessed a record spike in new COVID-19 positive cases and deaths in the last 24 hours. With 12,881 new cases the total SARS CoV-2 infection cases in India has risen to 3,66,946 till Wednesday night. The country also recorded a big jump in the number of new deaths at 334 on Wednesday.
The active cases in the nation now stand at 1,60,384 while 1,94,325 patients recovered until now, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry. The total COVID related deaths in the country reached at 12,237.
With 3,307 new cases, the total COVID cases in Maharashtra rose to 1,16,752. The state currently has 51,935 active cases and 59,166 patients have been recovered so far. Of these, 1,359 cases have been reported in Mumbai alone where the infection tally is at 61,587. With 114 recent deaths, the total fatalities in Maharashtra remain 5,651 as of now.
The number of confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu, which now stands as the second-worst affected state, has crossed the 50,000 mark on Thursday reaching 50,193. Meanwhile, keeping close to Tamil Nadu, Delhi registered 2,414 new COVID cases yesterday taking the total confirmed cases to over 47,000. The death toll mounted to 1,904 in the national capital.
Starting today, the COVID-19 tests in Delhi will be done with the new Rapid Antigen method approved by the ICMR, said the Union Home Ministry. For this, about 169 testing centres have also been set up across the national capital.
