India witnessed yet another new spike in the number of COVID infections on Friday. With 14,516 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, the total confirmed cases in the country rose to 3,95,048. About 21,831 patients have recovered so far and with 375 new fatalities reported in the past 24 hours the death toll now stands at 12,970.
Maharashtra recorded its highest single-day surge on Friday, with 3,827 new cases taking its tally to 1,24,331. Of these, 55,651 are active cases. The state reported 142 new fatalities yesterday. The death toll now stands at 5,893. About 62,773 patients have been recovered so far taking the recovery rate to 50.49%, stated the officials.
The total cases in Tamil Nadu now stand at 54,449. Delhi reported 3,137 new positive cases on Friday, taking the total number of cases to 53,116. As many as 66 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours taking the number of deaths to 2, 035.
Globally, the COVID-19 tally stands at 8,765,473. With 2,297,190 reported cases the U.S continues to be the most affected country followed by Brazil (1,038,568) and Russia (569,063).
