Metropolis’ lab in Coimbatore begins testing for COVID-19

The Metropolis Healthcare Ltd has recently begun testing for COVID-19 at its lab in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The lab has recently received the ICMR and NABL approval for the testing, announced the company. Additionally, Metropolis has seven other labs in the country approved for COVID-19 testing at Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, and Bangalore.

The testing is based on TrueNat technology.TrueNat is a chip-based, battery-operated reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction kit (RT PCR). The RT-PCR method includes capturing specific genes from the extracted RNA from the sample. A small part of specific RNA is converted to DNA, and then it is amplified through a series of chemical processes. The new TrueNat machines are equipped to detect the E genes and RdRp genes separately from the virus RNA, and hence these tests are treated as a confirmation for the presence of the novel coronavirus.

Dr. Anita Suryanaryanan, Vice President, Metropolis Healthcare Ltd said, “In addition to Chennai, we are happy to announce that we now have also begun testing for COVID-19 using TrueNat technology at the Coimbatore lab.”

The new lab approved for COVID-19 testing in Tamil Nadu is located at the address: Metropolis Healthcare Ltd, Coimbatore PSC Lab Number 218, Cowley Brown Road, R S Puram, Coimbatore 641002, and can be contacted at 04224394949.
