India recorded 13,780 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The cumulative caseload has now risen to 1,05,96,442, of which 1,94,201 are active cases. As many as 17,229 recoveries were recorded on the day taking the total recoveries to 1,02,45,092 till now. With 161 recent deaths, the overall fatalities due to the pandemic in the nation have now reached 1,52,754.
With 6,186 new COVID-19 incidences, Kerala recorded the highest daily infections on Tuesday. The state’s cumulative caseload has risen to 8,57,381 with active infections surpassing 70K mark to reach 70,262. The state recorded 4,296 recoveries and 26 deaths on the day taking the total recoveries and death toll to 7,83,393 and 3,507 respectively.
Maharashtra reported 2,294 new infections against 4,516 recoveries in the past day. The state recorded 50 deaths on the day taking the total fatalities to 50,523. The cumulative case tally now stands at 19,94,977, while the active infections have once again declined below 50,000 to reach 48,406.
The total number of healthcare workers vaccinated against COVID-19 was 6,31,417 till Tuesday, through 11,660 sessions, as per a provisional report. As many as 1,77,368 beneficiaries were vaccinated on Tuesday.
According to the health ministry, a total of nine AEFI [adverse events following immunization] required hospitalisation. In Delhi, three cases have been discharged, whereas one is under observation at the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Shahdara. One case from Uttarakhand has been discharged. In Karnataka, one person is discharged and another person is stable and under observation at the District Hospital, Chitradurga. In Chhattisgarh, one person is discharged, while in Rajasthan, one case is of suspected anaphylaxis is under observation at the District Hospital, Bangar, the report said.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Punjab have so far registered the lowest coverage of COVID-19 vaccination, with India reporting 0.18% Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) and 0.002% hospitalisation till now, the health ministry said. The three states recorded 34.9%, 34.6% and 27.6% coverage respectively.
Globally, the COVID-19 cases have reached 96,625,534 with the fatalities mounting to 2,065,695. With 24,806,964 cases the US has the most number of infections, which is followed by India (10,596,442), Brazil (8,575,742), Russia (3,612,800) and the UK (3,466,849).
