India reported 18,292 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday. The total confirmed case tally has climbed to 11,191,864, while the number of active cases totalled 177,389. The overall recoveries has surged to 10,839,894 with 14,162 discharges recorded on the past day. The death count due to the viral disease totalled 157,693 in the country with 109 more fatalities reported on the day, according to data updated by the union health ministry.
Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Delhi are currently witnessing a fresh spike in their daily cases, the union ministry of health and family welfare said on Friday.
Maharashtra reported 10,216 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the state’s active case tally to 88,838. The total confirmed cases in the state has risen to 2,198,399. Pune, Nagpur and Mumbai reported spike of above 1,100 cases, while Nashik and Jalgaon in north Maharashtra saw a resurgence in infections, showed the official reports.
With 6,467 patients being discharged in the past 24 hours, the recovery rate dipped to 93.52% in the state. The cumulative recoveries stand at 2,055,951. As many as 53 deaths pushed the toll to 52,340.
“Of 16,686,880 laboratory samples tested thus far, 2,198,399 have returned positive with over 90,000 samples being tested in the last 24 hours,” said State Surveillance Officer Dr Pradeep Awate. He added that the case fatality rate remained at 2.38%.
A total of 410,411 people across the state are in home quarantine and 4,203 are in institutional quarantine, he added.
Kerala reported 2,776 new COVID-19 cases, 3,638 discharges and 16 deaths on Friday. The total confirmed case tally rose to 1,072,437. The active infections declined to 43,559. The total recoveries surged to 10,24,309 and the death toll mounted to 4,272.
Punjab reported 808 new cases, Karnataka recorded 677, Tamil Nadu recorded 543, Gujarat recorded 515, Madhya Pradesh added 457 and Delhi added 312 new Covid cases on Friday.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 1.90 crore with 10,34,672 vaccine jabs being given till Friday evening, the union health ministry said.
