India reported one of the highest spike of 2,16,828 fresh COVID-19 incidences on Thursday. The new cases pushed the total case tally of the nation to 1,42,87,926, while the active infection load soared to 15,63,702. So far, 1,74,335 people lost their lives to COVID-19 pandemic in the country. As many as 1,17,897 discharges and 1,182 deaths were recorded yesterday.
Maharashtra reported as many as 61,695 new cases. The total case tally of the state soared to 36,39,855 while the active infection load increased to 6,20,060. As many as 53,335 discharges and 349 new fatalities were recorded on the day. The total fatalities have reached 59,153.
Uttar Pradesh continued to report the second-highest number of cases on Thursday reaching 22,339. The state now has 1,29,848 active cases. The total confirmed cases reported till now stands at 7,66,360. As many as 4,222 discharges and 104 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours. The death toll has risen to 9,480.
Delhi saw a surge of 16,699 new cases on Thursday taking the total caseload to 7,84,137. The active infection load now comprised 54,309 cases. As many as 112 recent deaths took the overall fatalities to 11,652. Delhi government has decided to enforce a weekend curfew in light of the recent surge in cases. The weekend curfew will be enforced from 10 pm on Friday evening till 6 am Monday.
The active cases in Chhattisgarh continued to rise reaching 1,21,769 as the state recorded 15,256 new cases on Monday. The new cases pushed the total confirmed case tally to 5,01,500. As many as 135 new deaths took the toll to 5,442.
Karnataka reported 14,738 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 11,09,650. The active cases of the state have surged to 96,561. The death toll of the state has reached 13,112 after recording 66 recent deaths.
Madhya Pradesh confirmed 10,166 new cases on Thursday, taking the total tally to 3,73,518. The active cases of the state have surged to 55,694. The death toll of the state has reached 4,365 after recording 53 recent deaths.
The southern state of Kerala witnessed 8,126 new incidences, 2,700 discharges and 20 deaths on Thursday. The total case tally went up to 11,97,302 and the active infections increased to 63,647. The death toll of the state has reached 4,857 after recording 20 recent deaths.
In Gujarat 8,152 new cases were reported on Thursday. The active infections stood at 44,298, while the total confirmed cases stood at 3,75,768. As many as 81 recent deaths took the toll to 5,076.
Other states which reported a spike in cases on Thursday included Tamil Nadu (7,987 new cases), West Bengal (6,769), Rajasthan (6,658), Bihar (6,133), Haryana (5,858), Andhra Pradesh (5,086), Punjab (4,311), Jharkhand (3,480), Telangana (3,307), Odisha (2,989), Uttarakhand (2,220), Jammu and Kashmir (1,141), and Himachal Pradesh (1,034).
