India, on Wednesday, reported fresh COVID-19 incidences surpassing the 2 lakh mark reaching 2,00,739. The new cases pushed the total case tally of the nation to 1,40,74,564, while the active infection load soared to 14,65,877. So far, 1,73,152 people lost their lives to COVID-19 pandemic in the country. As many as 93,418 discharges and 1,037 deaths were recorded yesterday.
Maharashtra reported as many as 58,952 new cases. The total case tally of the state soared to 35,78,160 while the active infection load increased to 6,12,070. As many as 39,624 discharges and 278 new fatalities were recorded on the day. The total fatalities have reached 58,804. Strict restrictions on the movement of people in the state while permitting only essential services, have been imposed by Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. The restrictions which began on April 14 last till May 1.
Uttar Pradesh reported the second-highest number of cases on Wednesday reaching 20,439. The state now has over 1 lakh active cases. The total confirmed cases reported till now stands at 7,44,021 of which 1,11,835 are currently active infections. As many as 4,517 discharges and 67 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours. The death toll has risen to 9,376.
Delhi saw a surge of 17,282 new cases on Wednesday taking the total caseload to 7,67,438. The active infection load now comprised 50,736 cases. As many as 104 recent deaths took the overall fatalities to 11,540.
The active cases in Chhattisgarh continued to rise reaching 1,18,636 as the state recorded 14,250 new cases on Monday. The new cases pushed the total confirmed case tally to 4,86,244. As many as 120 new deaths took the toll to 5,307.
Karnataka reported 11,265 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 10,94,912. The active cases of the state have surged to 85,480. The death toll of the state has reached 13,046 after recording 38 recent deaths.
Madhya Pradesh reported 9,720 new cases on Wednesday, taking the total tally to 3,63,352. The active cases of the state have surged to 49,551. The death toll of the state has reached 4,312 after recording 51 recent deaths.
Kerala reported 8,778 new incidences, 2,642 discharges and 22 deaths on Wednesday. The total case tally went up to 11,89,176 and the active infections increased to 58,242. The death toll of the state has reached 4,837 after recording 22 recent deaths.
Other states which reported a spike in cases on Wednesday included Tamil Nadu (7,819 new cases), Gujarat (7,410), Andhra Pradesh (4,157), Rajasthan (6,200), West Bengal (5,892), Haryana (5,398), Bihar (4,786), Punjab (3,302), Jharkhand (3,198), Odisha (2,267), Telangana (2,157), Uttarakhand (1,953) and Jammu and Kashmir (1,086). Rajasthan government has also announced night curfew in all cities between 6 pm to 6 am from April 16 to 30.
