India’s COVID-19 case count nears 26 lakh; death toll crosses 50,000

India saw the highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases on Saturday with 67,103 fresh infections being reported on the day. The total caseload of the country has now risen to 25,90,572. According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of active cases has surged to 67,9022. The death toll due to the infection went past 50,000 on Saturday reaching 50,096. More than 55,000 COVID-19 patients were reportedly recuperated on the day taking the total recoveries to over 18.5 lakh.

With 12,614 fresh COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra had reported the highest number of infections among all states on Saturday. Karnataka had the second-highest count with 8,818 fresh infections.

Other states that reported their highest daily spike in infections were Bengal (3,074), Odisha (2,496), Rajasthan (1,337), Kerala (1,608), Jharkhand (1,242) and Madhya Pradesh (1,019).
