India reported 48,285 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday pushing the overall confirmed cases in the country to 86,84,039. The active infection stood below 5 lakh at 4,89,427 with as many as 80,64,548 recoveries and 1,28,165 deaths seen so far. The country saw 52,704 recoveries and 550 deaths during the day.
Delhi on Wednesday witnessed the biggest single-day spike in the number of new infections with 8,593 fresh COVID-19 cases. As many as 85 deaths were reported in a single day, taking the death toll to 7,228. Of the total 4,59,975 cases, 4,10,118 people have recovered and there are now 42,629 active cases. As many as 64.1K tests were conducted on Wednesday, adding the total tests to 52.6 lakh to date.“Three times more tests are being done now as compared to the last peak. It is clear this is the third wave,” Health Minister Satyendar Jain told to media.
On September 10, the Delhi High Court had stayed an order to reserve 80% ICU beds in 33 private hospitals for COVID-19 . The HC will be hearing the case today. Of the total 16,511 beds available for COVID-19 treatment in the city, 51.4% were occupied, as per government data. Also, 86.3% of the ICU beds with ventilators are occupied and 83.6% of the ICU beds without ventilators are full. The positivity rate was 13.4% and the overall positivity rate till now is 8.74%, according to the health ministry.
Kerala’s new COVID-19 cases remained high at 7,007 on Wednesday, as the state tested 64,192 samples. The test positivity rate stood at 10.9%. The addition of 29 deaths took the cumulative COVID-19 toll to 1,772. The total caseload in the state crossed 5 lakh mark reaching 5,02,720 with the active infections at 78,422. The total recoveries have reached 4,22,410 with 7,252 of them getting discharged yesterday.
Maharashtra reported 4,907 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday taking the total case tally to 17,31,833. The number of active cases stood at 88,070, With 125 deaths, the state’s death toll has reached 45,560.
West Bengal reported 3,872 new COVID-19 cases taking the total cases to 4,16,984. The active cases dropped to 32,836. As the state recorded 49 deaths, the fatality toll reached 7,452. The state saw 4,431 recoveries yesterday taking the total recoveries to 3,76,696.
A total of 2,584 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka on Wednesday, taking the tally to 8,53,796. The total number of fatalities reached 11,453 with 23 deaths. The total number of recoveries stood at 8,11,581, with 2,881 people having been discharged on Wednesday. The state currently has 30,743 active cases.
