India has recorded 1,00,56,248 confirmed COVID-19 cases, after reporting 24,589 new incidences in the past 24 hours. A total of 1,45,843 deaths and 96,06,111 cases of recoveries have been registered so far from the pandemic. As many as 25,709 recoveries and 330 deaths from the infection were reported on the previous day.There are 3,02,343 active cases as of now.
Kerala reported 5,711 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, when 53,858 samples were tested, taking the state’s cumulative case burden to 7,05,869 cases. The test positivity rate, which has been slowly and steadily rising since the past one week, reached 10.6% on Sunday.
The trend is reflected in the rise in the state’s active caseload also. The active cases which had remained below 60,000 since the past two weeks or more crossed to 61,604 cases on Sunday. With 4,471 more recoveries being reported on the day, the cumulative number of recoveries in the state stands at 6,41,285.
With 30 new deaths, the state’s COVID-19 toll has risen to 2,816. The number of critically ill COVID patients occupying ICU is 842, with 224 requiring ventilator assistance, according to official figures.
Of the new cases, 111 have reported a history of travel outside the state while 5,600 are locally acquired infections, of which 501 cases have not been traced to a known source of infection. The number of healthcare workers who contracted the infection was 41.
Among districts, Kottayam reported the highest number of cases on Sunday with 905 cases, followed by Malappuram (662), Kozhikode (650) and Ernakulam (591).
Maharashtra’s coronavirus tally rose to 18,96,518 after 3,811 people tested positive for the infection on Sunday. A total of 2,064 patients were discharged after recovery. So far, 17,83,905 people have recovered. However, the fatality count went up to 48,746 with the death of 98 patients.
Delhi saw new cases at 1,091 pushing its overall caseload to 6,17,005. Over 83.3K samples were tested during the day. There are 10,148 active infections under treatment in the city. As many as 1,275 were recovered yesterday. The total recoveries add up to 5,96,580. With 26 new deaths, the total fatalities took to 10,277.
West Bengal added 1,978 new infections, 2,627 recoveries and 40 deaths on Sunday. The overall confirmed cases stood at 5,36,828, as of now, with 17,771 active cases under treatment. The deaths toll has reached 9,360 in the state. As many as 40.2K tests were conducted during the day.
