India has reported over 15,270 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday taking the cumulative caseload to 1,06,11,719. The active infections remained below 2 lakhs at 1,89,245. As many as 20,071 recoveries and 152 deaths due to the pandemic were recorded yesterday. The total number of recoveries have reached 1,02,65,163 while the death toll mounted to 1,52,906.
Kerala reported the highest daily COVID-19 cases with 6,815 testing positive on Wednesday. The case tally stood at 8,64,196, while the active cases remained at 69,695. The state recorded 7,364 recoveries and 18 deaths on Wednesday, taking the total recoveries and fatalities to 7,90,757 and 3,525 respectively.
Followed by Kerala, Maharashtra which added the second-highest daily cases saw 3,015 new incidences, 4,589 recoveries and 59 deaths on Wednesday. The state’s case tally stood at 19,97,992, of which 46,769 are active infections. The total recoveries have reached 18,99,428 and the death toll has risen to 50,582, till now.
On Wednesday 1,12,007 people were inoculated taking the count of beneficiaries to 7,86,000. There have been four deaths among those vaccinated — three due to cardiac arrest and not linked to the vaccination and one was still being analysed, a health ministry official said. Overall 82 adverse events have been reported till January 20th following immunisation.
More than 51 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been given around the world, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) report.
