India reported 44,619 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday pushing the overall confirmed cases in the country to 87,73,243. The active infections stood at 4,80,614 with as many as 81,61,467 recoveries and 1,29,225 deaths seen so far. The country saw 47,565 recoveries and 516 deaths during the day.
In Delhi, ICU beds for COVID-19 patients are nearly full with new cases showing an upward trend, according to the city government. Overall, 87.42% of the total 1,328 ICU beds with ventilators and 84.7% ICU beds without ventilators were occupied. On Thursday, the Delhi High Court had allowed the city government to reserve 80% ICU beds for COVID-19 patients in 33 private hospitals. As on Friday night there was 52.5% occupancy for COVID-19 beds in city hospitals. In 59 hospitals, all ICU beds with ventilators for COVID-19 treatment were occupied; and in 61 hospitals, all ICU beds without ventilators were full.
Delhi recorded 7,802 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the infection tally to 4,74,830. Of the total cases, 4,23,078 people have recovered and there are now 44,329 active cases. 91 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 7,423. The new coronavirus cases were detected from 56,553 tests conducted yesterday showing a positivity rate of 13.8%. The ongoing festive season and the rise in pollution may contribute to the increase in risk of the spread of infection, said the officials.
Kerala reported 5,804 positive cases on Friday. The test positivity rate stood at 9.97%, after testing 58,221 samples yesterday. The state added 26 more deaths. The overall confirmed cases reached 5,14,061 with active infections at 77,391. Among the cases reported on Friday, 4,988 were locally acquired infections and 118 people have come from other states. The source of infection of 643 people is not known. There were 55 health workers among the newly infected persons.
Maharashtra reported 4,132 new COVID-19 cases and 4,543 recoveries on Friday. The overall recoveries have risen to 16,09,607 in the state. The total case tally now stands at 17,40,461. The number of active cases has now come down to 84,082. With 127 deaths, the total death toll has climbed to 45,809.
West Bengal reported 3,835 new COVID-19 cases taking the total cases to 4,24,675. The active cases dropped to 31,501. As the state recorded 51 deaths, the fatality toll reached 7,557. The state saw 4,468 recoveries yesterday taking the total recoveries to 3,85,617.
Meanwhile, Karnataka continued to show a trend of low numbers with 2,016 new cases on Friday. The state’s positivity rate stood at 1.71%. The state added 17 more deaths during the day.
Tamil Nadu also reported cases as low as 1,939 on Friday taking the case tally to 7,54,460. The active infections in the state stood at 17,748. The state saw 2,572 recoveries during the day taking the overall recoveries to 7,25,258. As many as 14 deaths took the total fatalities to 11,454.
