India registered over 16,488 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. With this, India’s caseload has risen to 1,10,79,979. The active case count has further increased to 1,59,590, which comprises 1.44% of the total infections, according to the latest union health ministry data. The death toll increased to 1,56,938 with 113 new fatalities. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,07,63,451, which translates to a national coronavirus recovery rate of 97.14% and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42%, the data stated.
Maharashtra recorded 8,333 new COVID19 incidences on Friday. The total case tally now rose to 21,38,154. The active cases soared to 67,608. The new cases have spread to more districts in the state over the past week. Active cases in 28 of the 36 districts in Maharashtra have seen a surge in the last two weeks, up from 21 districts about 10 days ago, according to official reports.
As many as 4,936 recoveries were reported during the day taking the total recoveries to 20,17,303. With 48 new fatalities, the death toll has risen to 52,041. Health department data shows active cases continue to go up in newly emerging hotspots in the Vidarbha like Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Yavatmal and Nagpur, but districts in Marathwada like Latur, Hingoli, Parbhani and Nanded are also adding large numbers.
Kerala recorded 3,671 new cases, 4,142 discharges and 14 deaths on Friday. The total caseload rose to 10,52,358 and over 9,96,514 have seen recovery so far. The active infections stood at 51,390. The death toll has risen to 4,165.
India has administered over 1,42,42,547 doses of COVID-19 vaccine till Friday, according to official reports.
