Even as India has initiated the COVID-19 vaccination, 13,962 new positive incidences were reported on Sunday. The cumulative case tally now stands at 1,05,72,672, of which 2,05,109 are active cases. The nation reported a total of 14,513 recoveries and 145 fatalities on the past day. With this, the total recoveries and death toll reported till now has elevated to 1,02,10,697 and 1,52,456 respectively.
With 5,005 new infections, Kerala continued to report the highest daily COVID-19 cases in the nation. The total case tally has reached 8,47,849, of which the active infections stood at 68,990. As many as 4,408 recoveries were reported on the day taking the total recoveries to 7,75,176. The death toll has reached 3,464 with 21 recent deaths.
Maharashtra saw 3,081 new cases, 2,342 recoveries and 50 deaths in the past 24 hours. The state’s total case burden has climbed to 19,90,759, while the active infections stood at 52,653. The total recoveries have reached 18,86,469 and the death toll has risen to 50,438 till now.
On Sunday six states conducted vaccination drive in 553 sessions -Andhra Pradesh (308 sessions), Arunachal Pradesh (14 sessions), Karnataka (64 sessions), Kerala (one session), Manipur (one session) and Tamil Nadu (165 sessions). A total of 17,072 beneficiaries were vaccinated.
A total of 2,24,301 beneficiaries have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine so far, out of which 447 adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) were reported. Out of the 447 adverse events following immunisation, only three required hospitalisations.
“A total of 447 AEFI have been reported so far. Out of the three hospitalizations, one has been discharged from Northern Railway Hospital Delhi within 24 hours; one has been discharged from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, and one is under observation in AIIMS Rishikesh and is being monitored,” said Manohar Agnani, additional secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The government however hasn’t given any details about the adverse reactions happened for which particular vaccine.
“Protocols are in place for reporting, immediate case management at vaccination session site, transportation and hospitalization and further care of such cases. Protocols are also in place for systematic investigation and causality assessment of serious AEFIs,” he said.
