India reported 14,472 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday. The total caseload has risen to 1,06,26,200 so far, with active infections at 1,85,826. The nation recorded 17,726 recoveries, and 161 deaths on the day taking the total recoveries and fatalities to 1,02,82,889 and 1,53,067 respectively.
Kerala saw 6,334 new infections pushing its total caseload to 8,70,530. The state now has the highest number of active infections in the country at 69,771. As many as 6,229 recoveries and 21 deaths were recorded yesterday. The total recoveries have reached 7,96,986 while the deaths escalated to 3,546.
Maharashtra recorded 2,886 new infections, 3,980 recoveries and 52 deaths on Thursday. The total caseload of the state stood at 20,00,878, with 45,622 of them being active infections. The total recoveries have reached 19,03,408 while the fatalities reached 50,634.
A total of 9,99,065 beneficiaries have so far been vaccinated for COVID-19 through 18,159 sessions held till the evening of January 21, the sixth day of the immunisation drive, according to a provisional report of the union health ministry. On January 21 alone1,92,581 beneficiaries were vaccinated.
COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy is as high as 39 percent in the Delhi-NCR with about one-fifth of the respondents saying that they will not take the jab, according to a survey conducted by the National Council of Applied Economic Research.
