With 2,57,299 new coronavirus infections being reported on Friday, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases climbed to 2,62,88,080. The daily deaths were recorded at 4,194, taking the toll to 2,95,560, according to the union health ministry data. The active infection load comprised 29,18,353 cases.
Tamil Nadu recorded 36,184 new cases on Friday. The total case tally has reached 17,70,988 while the active infections went up to 2,74,629. As many as 467 deaths were recorded during the day taking the total fatalities to 19,598.
Karnataka confirmed 32,218 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 23,67,742. The active cases of the state stood at 5,14,238. As many as 353 new deaths reported on the day took the total fatalities to 24,207.
Kerala reported 29,673 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The overall caseload reported till now has reached 22,93,633. The active caseload of the state comprised 3,06,342 cases. As many as 142 new deaths pushed the toll to 6,995.
Maharashtra reported 1,263 new COVID-19 related fatalities and 29,644 fresh cases on Friday. The total case tally of the state rose to 55,27,092 while the active infection load comprised 3,67,121 cases. The overall fatalities have reached 86,618.
Other states which reported a surge in fresh cases on Friday included Andhra Pradesh (20,937 new cases), West Bengal (19,847), Odisha (12,523), Uttar Pradesh (7,682), Rajasthan (6,225), Assam (6,066), Haryana (5,643), Punjab (5,253), Bihar (5,154), Chhattisgarh (4,943), Madhya Pradesh (4,384), Gujarat (4,251), Jammu and Kashmir (3,848), Uttarakhand (3,626), Telangana (3,464), Delhi (3,009), Himachal Pradesh (2,662), Jharkhand (2,151), Puducherry (1,702), Goa (1,625)
