India is set to launch three new high-throughput rapid COVID-19 testing facilities across 3 different cities in the country. The facilities have been set up at the ICMR-National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida, ICMR-National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai and ICMR-National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the testing facilities will be able to test over 10,000 samples in a day.
The rapid testing facility is expected to ramp up the testing capacity and help improve early detection and treatment in the country. These labs are intended to reduce the turnaround time and exposure of lab personnel to infectious clinical materials stated the PMO.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) the total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to 26th July is 1,68,06,803 including 5,15,472 samples tested on Sunday
