India, on Friday, reported a new record single-day rise of 2,34,002 COVID-19 cases. This pushed the total confirmed case tally to reach 1,45,21,928. The active infection load soared to 16,73,214. With 1,338 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, the death toll went up to 1,75,673. As many as 1,22,886 discharges were reported across the nation yesterday.
Maharashtra reported as many as 63,729 new cases on Friday. The total case tally of the state soared to 37,03,584 while the active infection load comprised 6,38,034. As many as 45,335 discharges and 398 new fatalities were recorded on the day. The total fatalities have reached 59,551.
Uttar Pradesh reported the second-highest number of cases on the day reaching 27,360. The state now has 1,50,676 active cases. The total confirmed cases reported till now stands at 7,93,720. As many as 6,429 discharges and 103 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours. The death toll has risen to 9,583. The UP government has announced a complete lockdown on Sunday in the state amid the rise in COVID-19 cases. The restrictions will come into effect at 8 pm Saturday night and remain in place till Monday at 7 am.
Delhi saw a surge of 19,486 new cases on Friday taking the total caseload to 8,03,623. The active infection load now comprised 61,005 cases. As many as 141 recent deaths took the overall fatalities to 11,793.
The active cases in Chhattisgarh continued to rise reaching 1,24,303 as the state recorded 14,912 new cases on Friday. The new cases pushed the total confirmed case tally to 5,16,412. As many as 138 new deaths took the toll to 5,580.
Karnataka reported 14,859 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 11,24,509. The active cases of the state have surged past the 1 lakh mark to reach 1,07,315. The death toll of the state has reached 13,190 after recording 78 recent deaths.
A total of 11,045 new cases were confirmed in Madhya Pradesh on Friday, taking the total tally to 3,84,563. The active cases of the state have surged to 59,183. The death toll of the state has reached 4,425 after recording 60 recent deaths.
Kerala’s case tally went up to 12,07,333 with 10,031 new incidences, 3,792 discharges and 21 deaths on Friday. The active infections increased to 69,865. The state’s death toll is now at 4,878.
In Gujarat, 8,920 new cases were registered on Friday. The active infections stood at 49,737, while the total confirmed cases stood at 3,84,688. As many as 94 recent deaths took the toll to 5,170.
Other states which reported a spike in cases on Friday included Tamil Nadu (8,449 new cases), Rajasthan (7,359), West Bengal (6,910), Haryana (6,277), Bihar (6,253), Andhra Pradesh (6,096), Punjab (3,891), Jharkhand (3,843), Telangana (3,840), Odisha (3,108), Uttarakhand (2,402), and Jammu and Kashmir (1,144).
