India recorded over 2.6 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases in the past week (March 15-21). The nation reported new incidences reaching 47,009 on Sunday. With this, the total tally of cases went up to 1,16,45,719, while the active caseload comprised 3,31,671 cases, according to the union health ministry data. The death count increased to 1,60,003 with 213 daily new fatalities. With 21,205 recent discharges, the total recoveries have reached 11,149,324.
Maharashtra reported the highest number of fresh COVID-19 cases on the day reaching 30,535 taking the state’s active caseload to 210,120 infections on Sunday. The total case tally soared to 2,479,682. As many as 11,314 patients were discharged on the day. The cumulative recoveries stand at 2,214,867. With 99 recent deaths, the fatality toll mounted to 53,399.
Kerala recorded 1,875 new COVID-19 cases, 2,251 discharges and 13 related deaths on Sunday. The total case tally rose to 1,104,229 while the active infections totalled 24,619. The overall recoveries have reached 1,074,805 and the death toll stood at 4,496
Punjab reported 2,644 new COVID-19 cases pushing its total case tally to 213,110. The active cases stood at 18,257, as the overall recoveries increased to 188,529 and the death toll went up to 6,324.
Other states which recorded a spike on Sunday included Karnataka (1,715 new cases), Gujarat (1,580), Tamil Nadu (1,289), Madhya Pradesh (1,322), Chhattisgarh (1,000), Haryana (867) and Delhi (823).
Around 4.62 lakh people received COVID-19 vaccinations on Sunday, taking the cumulative total to 45,065,998, according to the official data of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As many as 449,115 people received the first dose of vaccination while 13,042 were inoculated with the second dose in the last 24 hours.
