With over 90,000 fresh COVID infections reported in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID tally went past 5 million to reach 50,180,74. With this, India has become the second country globally to record 5 million Covid-19 cases after the US. The unprecedented rise in cases seen in the past 11 days added the last 1 million to the total caseload reported in the country.
Currently, the active cases stand at 9,969,10 inching close to 10 lakh mark while the total number of recoveries have reached 39,389,68. The total fatalities due to the infection have risen to 82,196 adding 1,275 more deaths on Tuesday.
Maharashtra saw 20,482 new COVID cases taking the state’s tally to reach 10,97,856. The active cases in the state stand at 2,921,74 while 30409 has succumbed to the disease. As many as 775273 people have recovered from the infection in the state so far.
Assam reported 2,409 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases to 1,46,575. The total number of cases include 1,15,051 recoveries, 31,029 active cases and 492 deaths. While, Kerala reported 3,215 new cases on Tuesday taking the cumulative case burden to 1,14,033 cases, of which 31,156 are active cases. Total deaths reached 466 on Tuesday, with 12 more deaths reported on the day.
The central health ministry informed on Tuesday that the country tests more than 9.5 lakh samples in the government labs and over 1.2 lakh samples in private labs.
