India: 14,545 confirmed COVID19 cases on Friday

India added 14,545 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the cumulative case burden to 1,06,40,544, the health ministry’s data showed. The number of active infections stood below 2 lakhs at 1,82,831. The overall recoveries have reached 1,03,00,063, with 17,166 individuals getting cured/discharged yesterday. The nation recorded as many as 153 fatalities on the day taking the overall fatalities to 1,53,221.

Kerala recorded the highest daily COVID-19 infections on Friday at 6,753. The cumulative case burden of the state has escalated to reach 8,77,283. The active infection once again went past 70,000 mark to reach 70,397. As many as 6,108 individuals were reportedly discharged on the day taking the total recoveries to 8,03,094. With 19 new deaths recorded on the day the total fatalities mounted to 3,565.

Maharashtra saw 2,779 new COVID-19 incidences, 3,419 recoveries and 50 deaths on Friday. The case tally of the state stood at 20,03,657, with the active infections at 44,926. The total recoveries in the state have reached 19,06,827 as the death toll mounted to 50,684.

Nearly 10.5 lakh beneficiaries have received anti-coronavirus shots under the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination exercise till January 22, the union health ministry said. As many as 2,37,050 people were vaccinated across 4,049 sessions on the day. A total of 18,167 sessions have been conducted so far.

India is also undertaking contractual supplies of coronavirus vaccines to Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Brazil, Morocco, Bangladesh and Myanmar, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.

India has so far sent consignments of coronavirus vaccines under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Seychelles, said MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava.
