8,392 new cases and 204 deaths on Tuesday; India continues exponential COVID infection trajectoryJune 2, 2020
India reported a spike of 8,392 new COVID cases and 204 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total number of cases reported touches 1,99,778 on the morning of June 2, of which 98,084 are active cases. However, in spite of the increasing number of the infection, the country is seeing high progress in recovery rate which is now 48.19%, the Health Ministry said. Overall, 96,081 patients have successfully recovered, while 5,613 lost their lives to the infection in the country so far.
With 2,361 new cases, Maharashtra’s total case tally today breached 70,000 mark to reach 70013, continuing as the worst affected state. The state now has 37,543 active cases and has seen 2,362 deaths so far which contributes to more than a quarter of the total deaths seen in the country. A total of 30,108 patients have been recovered in the state.
The total number of cases reported by the second highly affected state, Tamil Nadu rose to 23,495 on Tuesday. The state has 10,141 active cases while it has lost has lost 184 lives to COVID.
The capital state Delhi too saw 20,834 overall cases. Currently, there are 11,565 active cases in the state. 523 deaths have been reported from the state due to COVID. The country remained at the 7th position in the global COVID ranking of the worst affected countries.
