Acupuncture to be recognized in IndiaMay 9, 2019
The traditional Chinese medical practice of acupuncture is likely to be recognised as an independent medical system in India, reports said.
An inter-departmental committee was constituted on October 2016 for identifying new systems of medicine in the country as a part of the central government initiative to promote and regulate the alternative systems of medicine.
In its report, the committee recommended that the acupuncture system, which is already recognised as a mode of therapy, can be accepted as an independent system of healthcare for the indications for which there is evidence and expertise for teaching, training and certification.
Following this, the health ministry is now considering recognizing acupuncture as an independent system of healthcare in the country.
