India: 16,846 COVID-19 cases confirmed on Tuesday

India reported 16,846 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. With this, the total caseload of the nation rose to 11,261,470 of which active cases totalled 1,81,143. As many as 1,09,17,624 individuals have recovered from the infection so far. Around 20,138 discharges and 113 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hour period, according to data from the union health ministry. The total death toll due to the pandemic has reached 158,079 till now.

Maharashtra, on Tuesday, reported 9,927 new COVID-19 cases, 12,182 discharges and 56 deaths, according to the state officials. With this, the cumulative count of the cases reached 2,238,398 in the state. The total number of recoveries went up to 2,089,294 while the total death toll stands at 52,556. The state currently has a total of 95,322 active cases.

Kerala reported 2,316 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The total confirmed cases in the state have risen to 1,081,056. The active cases stood at 37,146. As many as 4,386 discharges and 16 deaths were reported on the day. The total recoveries have reached 1,039,281 and the death toll stood at 4,329.

Punjab recorded 1,027 new COVID-19 cases, 505 recoveries and 20 deaths on Tuesday. The total caseload has risen to 1,90,647 while the active cases stood at 8,522. The death toll mounted to 5,961.

Karnataka reported a spike of 590 new infections, Tamil Nadu saw 569, Gujarat added 581, Madhya Pradesh recorded 457, Haryana recorded 336 and Delhi recorded 320 cases on Tuesday.

As many as 2,019,723 COVID-19 vaccine shots were administered on Tuesday, according to the health ministry. India’s has so far given 23,008,733 anti- COVID-19 jabs to the beneficiaries since the initiation of the vaccination drive on 16 January.
