India recorded 18,650 COVID cases on Sunday

India added 18,650 fresh COVID-19  cases on Sunday. With this, the total confirmed case tally rose to 11,229,398. The active cases registered an increase reaching 184,523. As many as 14,303 discharges took the total recoveries to 10,880,880. The recovery rate has dropped further to 96.95 per cent, the ministry data stated. The death toll reached 157,853 with 99 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra recorded a spike of 11,141 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday after conducting over 91.2K tests. The state’s total case tally went up to 2,219,727 cases. The active cases have now surged to 97,983 cases.The state recorded 6,013 discharges on the day totalling the recoveries to 2,068,044. As many as 38 deaths pushed the toll to 52,478.

Owing to rising cases, authorities have announced partial lockdown in Aurangabad from March 11 and full lockdown on weekends. Malls and weekly markets will be shut, weddings and public functions disallowed and restaurants will have to be shut at 9 pm, according to official reports. Aurangabad has a tally of 52,103 infections while the death toll stands at 1,284.

Kerala recorded 2,100 new COVID-19 cases, 4,039 discharges and 13 related deaths on Sunday. The total case tally rose to 1,077,328 while the active infections totalled 40,863. The overall recoveries have reached 1,031,865 and the death toll stood at 4,301.

The active COVID-19 cases in Punjab rose to 7,497 after the state reported 1,043 fresh infections on Sunday. The total case tally now stand at 188,391. As many as 693 discharges were reported on the day taking the total recoveries to 174,967. With 17 new deaths the toll mounted to 5,927.

Karnataka recorded 622 new infections, Tamil Nadu reported 567, Gujarat recorded 575 and Madhya Pradesh added 429 cases on the day.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 20 million, the union health ministry said.

Globally the coronavirus cases have risen to 117,431,146. As many as 92,935,685 have recovered, and 2,604,787 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 2,604,787 cases
