140-bed Aravind Eye Hospital opened in TirupatiMay 8, 2019
The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Rs 100 crore Sri Venkateswara Aravind Eye Hospital in Tirupati, recently.
The 140 bedded eye hospital would render 50 percent of its services on payment and the balance would be made available either free of cost or at a highly subsidized rate, reports said.
The seven acres of land for the construction of the hospital was given on lease to the Tamil Nadu based Aravind Eye Care Systems by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, which governs the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala.
The Aravind Eye Care Hospitals, a World Health Organisation collaborating centre for prevention and control of blindness, now runs a dozen eye hospitals in Tamil Nadu and has one in the city of Tirupati as well.
