India reported 4.12 lakh COVID-19 cases and 3,979 deaths on WednesdayMay 6, 2021 0 By FM
In a grim milestone, India once again recorded over 4 lakh new COVID-19 on Wednesday. The country which reported 4,12,624 new cases also saw 3,979 new deaths on the day taking the overall fatalities to 2,30,151. With this, the total confirmed cases soared to 2,10,71,103 in the country. The active infection load comprised 35,62,835 cases.
Maharashtra reported 57,640 new cases. The total case tally of the state rose to 48,80,542 while the active infection load comprised 6,41,596 cases. A total of 920 deaths were recorded on the day taking the overall fatalities to 72,662.
Karnataka confirmed 50,112 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 17,41,046. The active cases of the state have surged to 4,87,288. As many as 346 deaths reported on the day took the total fatalities to 16,884.
Kerala reported one of the highest spikes of 41,953 new covid cases on Wednesday. The active cases in the state comprised more than 3.7 lakhs reaching 3,75,657. The overall caseload reported till now has reached 17,43,933. Also, 58 new deaths pushed the death toll to 5,566.
A total of 31,111 new cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh on the day taking the confirmed cases to 13,99,294. The active cases stood at 2,62,474. As many as 353 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours taking the death toll of the state to 14,151.
Tamil Nadu reported 23,310 new cases on Wednesday. The total case tally has reached 12,72,602 while the active infections went up to 1,28,311. As many as 167 deaths were recorded during the day taking the total fatalities to 14,779.
Andhra Pradesh saw 22,204 new cases on Wednesday. With this, the total caseload has reached 12,06,232. The active infection load now comprised 1,70,588 cases. As many as 85 recent deaths took the overall fatalities to 8,374.
Delhi reported 20,960 new cases and 311 deaths on Wednesday. The total confirmed caseload comprised 12,53,902. The active cases stood at 91,859 while the death toll surged to 18,063.
Other states which also reported a spike in fresh cases on Wednesday included West Bengal (18,102 new cases), Rajasthan (16,815), Haryana (15,416), Chhattisgarh (15,157), Bihar (14,836), Gujarat (12,955), Madhya Pradesh (12,319), Odisha (9,889), Punjab (7,953), Uttarakhand (7,783), Telangana (6,361), Jharkhand (5,770), Assam (4,826) Jammu and Kashmir (4,716), Himachal Pradesh (3,842), Goa (3,496) and Puducherry (1,819).
Due to increasing cases in Himachal Pradesh, the state government on Wednesday announced that a 10-day lockdown will be imposed from May 7 to May 16. The government also announced that a negative RT-PCR test report not older than 72 hours has been made mandatory for those travelling to the state by air, rail and buses.
