India’s daily COVID-19 case tally spikes to 21,814 on Wednesday

India reported 21,814 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday pushing the total confirmed case tally of the nation to 11,284,311. The active infections went up to 1,85,665. Meanwhile, the overall recoveries have surged to 1,09,35,803 after registering 17,674 discharges in the past day. The death toll mounted to 158,213 after recording 114 fatalities on the day.

Maharashtra’s caseload has risen to 2,252,057, after recording 13,659 new cases on Thursday. The state now has 99,008 active cases which mark the highest in the country. While the death toll of the state reached 52,610 with 54 fatalities on the day, the total recoveries surged to 2,099,207 after recording 9,913 new discharges.

Kerala reported 2,475 new infections on Thursday. The total caseload rose to 1,083,531 while the recoveries have surged to 1,043,473. The active caseload declined to 35,415 cases. The death toll stood at 4,343. As many as 4,192 discharges and 14 deaths were reported on the day.

Punjab recorded 1,393 new COVID-19 cases, 496 recoveries and 17 deaths on Thursday. The total caseload has risen to 192,040 while the active cases stood at 9,402. The death toll mounted to 5,978.

Karnataka reported a spike of 760 new infections, Tamil Nadu saw 671, Gujarat added 675, Delhi recorded 370 and Haryana recorded 359 cases on Thursday.

India vaccinated 1,317,357 beneficiaries against Covid-19 on Wednesday. This brings the total tally to 2,56,85,011 people inoculated so far in the country, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s official data.

More than 10 lakh people received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday. While around 2,87,000 people received the second dose in the last 24 hours.
