India’s COVID caseload at 6.7 million; Fatalities mount to 1,04,591October 7, 2020 0 By FM
India’s overall COVID-19 case tally soared to 67,54,179 with 76,869 fresh incidences reported in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases are 9,07,379 at present while 57,41,253 infected patients have recovered. With 990 more deaths reported on Tuesday, the total COVID-19 linked deaths have reached 1,04,591 until now in India.
Maharashtra reported 12,258 fresh cases, 17,141 recoveries and 370 fatalities during the day. The total confirmed cases in the state have reached 14,65,911 of which 2,47,023 constitute the active caseload. The overall number of patients who have recovered from the infection in the state so far has reached 11,79,726. The cumulative deaths stand at 38,717.
Andhra Pradesh saw 5,795 positive COVID cases, 6,046 new recoveries and 33 deaths on Tuesday. The total caseload in the state stood at 7,29,307 of which 50,776 are presently active cases. The death toll in the state has reached 6,052.
Karnataka reported 9,993 new COVID cases on Tuesday. The state’s total caseload stands at 6,57,705 of which 1,15,151 are active infections. The state tested 10,228 patients as negative during the day taking the overall recoveries to 5,33,074. The death toll mounted to 9,461 with 91 deaths seen yesterday.
There was a marginal dip in the daily-COVID cases in Tamil Nadu with 5,017 persons testing positive for the infection. The fresh cases took the State’s tally to 6,30,408. A total of 71 deaths were recorded. As many as 5,548 persons were discharged across the state, taking the total figure to 5,75,212. As of date, the total active cases stands at 45,279.
Meanwhile, 7,871 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Kerala on Tuesday. Over 60,494 samples were tested during the day and the test positivity rate stands at 13%, said the state health ministry. About 97% of new cases were locally acquired infections including those reported in 111 healthcare workers.
Thiruvananthapuram district reported 989 cases, Malappuram 854, Kollam 845, Ernakulam 837, Thrissur 757, Kozhikode 736, Kannur 545, Palakkad 520, Kottayam 427, Alapuzha 424, Kasaragod 416, Pathanamthitta 330, Wayanad 135 and Idukki 56 cases.
“The state would focus on identifying and isolating symptomatic people and stringently implement the COVID-19 protocol in markets and other public places,” told Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to the media.
“All those who tested negative in rapid antigen tests but were symptomatic would be re-tested using RT-PCR. All districts were asked to take steps to ensure that test positivity was below 10%. Directions had been given to ensure special care for pregnant women, children and those on dialysis who might test positive for COVID-19,” he added.
