Daily spike in cases march towards 14K; India COVID tally at 3,80,532

India saw a spike of 13,586 new cases in the past 24 hours, shifting the single-day growth trajectory from the so far seen 12,000 cases to close to 14,000 cases in India.  The total number of confirmed COVID cases in India rose to 3,80,532 on Friday morning. There are currently 1,63,248 active cases in the country, and 2,04,711 has been recovered so far, said the Union Health Ministry in its latest update. As many as 343 new fatalities have been reported yesterday taking the total death toll to 12,602.

Maharashtra and Delhi recorded their biggest single-day jump in cases. With 3,752 new cases, Maharashtra’s COVID tally has now crossed the 12,000 mark to reach 1,20,504. While Delhi recorded 2,877 cases with its total confirmed cases closing near to 50,000 mark. The total cases reported in the national capital is now at 49,979. 

As many as 2,141 persons tested positive for the infection in Tamil Nadu over the past 24 hours, said the State Health Department. The total tally of Tamil Nadu is now at 52,334. About 625 people have lost their lives to the pandemic in the state so far. Lockdown in the four districts including Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram & Thiruvallu is to remain imposed till June 30 in the state. 

Uttar Pradesh also reported its biggest surge in infections, with 630 new cases reported on Thursday. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also recorded their highest single-day numbers with a spike of 425 and 352 recent cases respectively.

Globally the reported COVID infections stand at 85 lakh causing around 4.5 lakh deaths. The total number of reported cases in the U.S is now at 2,263,651 which is followed by Brazil (983,359), Russia (561,091) and India.
