India COVID tally crosses 3.5 lakh; Death toll nears 12,000

India registered 10,974 new cases in the past 24 hours taking the COVID-19 tally to over 3.5 lakh Wednesday morning. Of the total confirmed cases, touched 3,54,065 until now, 1,55,227 are currently active, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. With a massive increase of over 2003 deaths reported yesterday the death toll in the country rose to 11,921. As of now, 1,87,126 patients have recovered in the country.  

The majority of the COVID related deaths in India were reported in Maharashtra and Delhi. This includes several earlier unreported deaths. Maharashtra added at least 1,328 deaths yesterday. Of these,  862 were in Mumbai alone, many of which were unaccounted earlier, said the state health department. The death toll in the state has now risen to 5,537. The total number of confirmed positive cases in the state stood at 1,13,445.
Delhi also has now reported as many as  344 unaccounted deaths,  including 93 recent deaths, taking the total death toll to 1,837 on Tuesday. With 1,859 new cases, the state’s COVID infection tally now inching towards 45,000-mark.

Globally the COVID tally is at 8,264,468 and the deaths reported are 4,46,135. With 2,208,400 cases the US continues to be the worst affected country followed by Brazil (928,834), Russia (545,458) and India (3,54,065).
