Azim Premji, Wipro becomes largest corporate supporter in India’s fight against COVID-19

As India’s COVID crisis is worsening with more number of positive cases and limited healthcare capacities, help from corporate houses and private enterprises has become critical. Among the helping hands, billionaire Azim Premji and his companies have proved to be the biggest supporter towards this cause so far in the country.          

While Azim Premji Foundation has offered an aid of Rs 1,000 crore, his group Wipro and its other enterprises and affiliates have together committed another 125 crore for tackling the unprecedented health and humanitarian crisis arising from the pandemic.  

Besides, Wipro GE Healthcare and its NGO partner People to People Health Foundation (PPHF) have partnered with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka to support a new COVID-19 referral hospital   at the administrative office of the state government in Ramanagaram district.  

The state had recently transformed its administrative office located at Kandhya Bhawan here into a dedicated COVID-19 isolation and treatment centre.  This Isolation centre will have 50 Isolation beds and an ICU comprising of 9 motorized beds. As part of the support, Wipro GE and PPHF have also provided 500 PPEs and N95 masks to ensure safety of doctors and frontline healthcare workers in Bengaluru.

We appreciate the timely support from Wipro GE Healthcare and People to People Health Foundation (PPHF) for supporting the dedicated COVID 19 referral hospital and donating essential protective supplies for emergency responders,” said B. Sriramulu, health and family welfare minister, Government of Karnataka.

Wipro GE Healthcare and PPHF have also supported a dedicated COVID 19 Hospital (Block 1 and Block 2) at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi to take care of the increasing demand of COVID-19 patients. The company and its partner have supported this isolation centre with 90 isolation beds and a dedicated ICU comprising of 30 motorized beds. Also, 500 PPE kits and N95 masks have been provided for doctors and healthcare workers at RML.
