India reports over 2.94 lakh COVID-19 cases; 2,020 deaths on Tuesday

India reported one of the highest spikes in COVID-19 cases crossing over 2.94 lakh on Tuesday. As many as 2,020 deaths were also reported during the day taking the total fatalities to 1,82,570. With 2,94,115 fresh cases the total confirmed cases soared to 1,56,09,004 in the country. The active infection load comprised 21,50,119 cases.

Maharashtra reported as many as 62,097 new cases on Tuesday. The total case tally of the state soared to 39,60,359 while the active infection load comprised 6,83,856 cases. A total of 54,224 discharges and 519 new fatalities were recorded on the day. The number of fatalities have now reached 61,343.

A total of 29,574 new cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh on the day taking the confirmed cases to 9,09,405. The active cases stood at 2,23,544. As many as 14,391 discharges and 162 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours taking the death toll to 10,159.

Delhi saw 28,395 new cases on Tuesday. With this the total caseload has reached 9,05,541. The active infection load now comprised 85,575 cases. As many as 277 recent deaths took the overall fatalities to 12,638.

Karnataka confirmed 21,794 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 11,98,644. The active cases of the state have surged to 1,59,158. The death toll of the state has reached 13,646 after recording 149 new fatalities.

The Karnataka government has decided to impose a night curfew between 9 pm and 6 am, starting Wednesday till 4 May to curb the spread of coronavirus. In addition to this, a weekend curfew has also been put in place for the same duration, the state government said.

The active cases in Chhattisgarh continued to rise reaching 1,25,688 as the state registered 15,625 new cases on Tuesday. The new cases pushed the total confirmed case tally to 5,74,299. A total of 191 new deaths took the toll to 6,274.

Madhya Pradesh registered 12,727 new cases on Tuesday, taking the total tally to 4,33,704. The active cases of the state have surged to 78,271. The death toll of the state has reached 4,713 after recording 77 recent deaths.

The active infections in Kerala surged to 1,18,670 on Tuesday. The state added 19,577 new incidences and 28 deaths on the day. The case tally went up to 12,72,646 while the death toll increased to 4,979.

A day after imposing the night curfew in the state, the Kerala government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown in all containment zones in the Ernakulam district. The lockdown has been announced by District Collector S Suhas. As per the order, the complete lockdown will be implemented in the district from Wednesday at 6 AM for seven days.

Other states which reported a spike in cases on Tuesday included Gujarat (12,206), Rajasthan (12,201), Tamil Nadu (10,986), Bihar (10,455), West Bengal (9,819), Andhra Pradesh (8,987), Haryana (7,811), Telangana (5,926), Jharkhand (5,080), Odisha (4,761), Punjab (4,656), Uttarakhand (3,012), Jammu and Kashmir (2,030), Assam (1,651), Himachal Pradesh (1,340) and Goa (1,160).
