India’s daily COVID-19 case count nears 25K on Friday

India recorded a total of 24,845 new COVID-19 infections on Friday. The total tally of cases went up to 11,333,491, while the active caseload comprised 199,022 cases, according to the union health ministry data. The death count increased to 158,483 with 140 daily new fatalities. With 19,972 discharges recorded in the past 24 hours, the total recoveries have reached 10,971,347.

Over 85 per cent of the total new cases in the country have been reported from Maharashtra Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

Maharashtra reported a spike of 15,817 fresh incidences on Friday. The state now has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in the country which stand at 110,485. The total case tally has reached 2,282,191. As many as 11,344 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,117,744. With 56 recent deaths, the fatality toll mounted to 52,723.

Kerala recorded 1,780 new COVID-19 cases, 3,377 discharges and 14 related deaths on Friday. The total case tally rose to 1,087,444 while the active infections totalled 32,170. The overall recoveries have reached 1,050,603 and the death toll stood at 4,370.

The active COVID-19 cases in Punjab rose to 10,452 after the state reported 1,408 fresh infections on Friday. The total case tally now stands at 1,94,753. As many as 991 discharges were reported on the day taking the total recoveries to 1,78,271. With 34 new deaths, the toll mounted to 6,030.

Karnataka recorded a spike of 833 new COVID-19 infections, Gujarat recorded 715, Tamil Nadu reported 670, Madhya Pradesh added 603, Haryana reported 385 and Delhi reported 431 cases on the day.

Meanwhile, over 2.80 crore coronavirus vaccines have been administered in India so far, with 18.40 lakh vaccinations done on Friday itself, said the union health ministry.
