COVID-19 cases nears 15K as TN, Punjab report a surge on Tuesday

India reported 14,997 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. With this, the case tally went up to 1,11, 39,516, according to the health ministry data. The active cases were recorded around 170,126 lakh. The death count increased to 157,346 with 98 daily new fatalities while the overall recoveries surged to 10, 812,044.

Maharashtra reported a spike of 7,863 coronavirus cases which took the state’s caseload to 21,69,330. The state’s recovery rate is 93.89 per cent while the fatality rate is 2.41 per cent.

The total COVID-19 caseload of Kerala has risen to 1,064,279 after reporting 2,938 new infections on Tuesday. The total active cases now stand at 47,277. With 3,512 discharges recorded in the past day the total recoveries have risen to 1,012,484 in the state. The death toll has reached 4,226 after witnessing 16 new deaths on the day.

Meanwhile, the Centre has deputed teams to Tamil Nadu and Punjab following a surge in COVID-19 cases, which was seen across various states in the country.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 21,840,3277 samples have been tested up to 2 March, of which 785,220 were done on Tuesday.

A total of 15,620,749 people have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine in the country so far, said the union health ministry on Tuesday.

The Centre has permitted all private hospitals to give COVID-19 vaccine if they adhere to the laid down norms and also asked the states and union territories to utilise 100 per cent capacities of private hospitals functioning as COVID Vaccination Centres.
