India reports 13,993 new COVID cases on Friday

India reported 13,993 new COVID-19 cases on Friday pushing the nation’s total caseload to 1,09,77,387. The active infections stood at 1,40,066 lakhs. The overall recoveries have risen to 1,06,75,882, after recording 9,962 discharges in the past 24 hours. The death toll has risen to 1,56,240 after reporting 90 new fatalities.

Maharashtra once again continued to register a spike in the number of daily COVID-19 cases. The state added 6,112 new incidences on Friday. With this, the total caseload of the state has risen to 20,87,632. The active cases have risen to 44,765. As many as 2,159 new discharges took the total recoveries to 19,89,963. The death toll mounted to 51,713 after reporting 44 new deaths in the past day.

Kerala reported 4,505 new COVID19 cases, 4,854 recoveries and 15 deaths on Friday. The total case tally has risen to 10,25,938 in the state, while the active infections which were above 60K till Thursday declined to 59,817, as per the official reports. The overall recoveries have risen to 9,61,789 as the total fatalities mounted to 4,062.

India has vaccinated over 1,01,88,007 healthcare workers and frontline workers so far. According to the union health ministry, India’s vaccination coverage ranks third in the world, after the USA (55.2 million doses) and the UK (16.12 million doses).
