India: Reported fresh cases dips to 16,072 on Monday

India reported 16,072 fresh COVID cases, 24,822 recoveries and 250 deaths in the last 24 hours. The overall case tally of the nation stands at 1,02,24,797, of which 2,67,017 are active cases under treatment.

With 3,047 new cases, Kerala’s COVID-19 tally spiked to 7,43,564. The active cases under treatment in the state stood at 64,026 after reporting 4,172 new recoveries and 14 deaths yesterday.

The overall cases of Maharashtra climbed to 19,22,048 after reporting 2,498 new cases in the last 24 hours. The active cases stood at 57,159 as 18,14,449 of the infected individuals were recovered and 49,305 succumbed to the infection, so far. The state recorded 4,501 recoveries and 50 deaths on Monday.

“Of a total 1,25,43,772 laboratory samples tested thus far, 19,22,048 (with the case positivity rate dipping to 15.32%) have returned positive with over 41,000 samples being tested in the last 24 hours,” State Surveillance Officer Dr Pradeep Awate said, adding that the case fatality stood at 2.57%.

A total of 1,005 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Monday, taking its tally to 8,15,175 cases. A total of 1,074 persons were discharged after treatment, while 11 more succumbed to the infection. So far, 7,94,228 persons have been discharged and 12,080 persons have died.

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 81.2 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.77 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University. In its latest update on Tuesday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 81,249,028 and 1,772,912, respectively.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 19,299,960 and 334,830, respectively, according to the CSSE. India comes in second place in terms of cases at 10.2 crores, while the country’s death toll soared to 147,901.
