Kerala, Himachal report higher number of COVID-19 cases on Sunday

India reported 39,036 new COVID-19 incidences with Kerala an Himachal Pradesh recording a higher number of fresh SARS-CoV-2 infections on Sunday. Now the country’s total case tally stands at 94,32,075. The overall active cases remained at 4,46,417 with 88,46,313 recoveries and 1,37,177 deaths seen in all, so far. The number of people who have recuperated from the virus infection yesterday was 45,152 and 444 lost lives to the infection.

Maharashtra reported 5,544 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday as opposed to only 4,362 recoveries. The total case tally now stands at 18,20,059, with the number of active cases stood at 90,997.

The cumulative recoveries have reached 16,80,926, with the state’s recovery rate decreasing to 92.36%. As many as 85 deaths were reported, taking the toll to 47,071.

“Of a total of 1,08,04,422 laboratory samples tested thus far, 18,20,059 (case positivity rate of 16.85%) have returned positive with over 82,000 samples being tested in the last 24 hours,” said State Surveillance Officer Dr Pradeep Awate, adding that the state’s case fatality rate stands at 2.59%.

Delhi recorded 4,906 new covid cases on Sunday pushing the infection tally to 5,66,648. The active cases stood at 35,091. The total recoveries have reached 5,22,491 and the deaths increased to 9,066. According to Delhi Police, close to 2,000 people were issued fines ranging from ₹500 to ₹2,000 over the past week for violating safety protocols and restrictions made in the city due to the surge in fresh COVID-19 cases.

Kerala reported 5,643 new incidences on Sunday pushing the state’s cumulative case burden to 5,99,601. 5,861 recoveries were reported during the day taking the overall recoveries to 5,32,658. The active caseload stood at 64,601. The state’s cumulative death toll rose to 2,224, with the addition of 27 more deaths.

West Bengal added 3,367 new infections pushing the total caseload to 4,80,813. The active infections stood at 24,405 in the state. 54 patients succumbed to the infection taking the fatalities to 8,376.

Rajasthan saw cases below 3K on Sunday. As many as 2,581 reported during the day pushed the case tally to 2,65,386. Of the total caseload 28,758 are active infections at present with 2,34,336 patients getting recovered and 2,292 succumbing to the infection so far.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh saw a significant surge in its daily cases which crosses 1K mark on Sunday. The state saw 1,026 fresh cases after testing 5,200 samples on the day. The active cases rose to 8,644 and the case tally stood at 40,003. The death toll has reached 625 with 12 new fatalities.
