India’s COVID-19 tally rises to 9.3 million with 43K new cases

India reported 43,174 new COVID-19 incidences on Thursday pushing the case tally to 93,09,871. Of the total caseload, the overall active cases remained at 4,54,279 as of now. Meanwhile, the number of people who have recuperated from the virus infection has reached 87,17,709 with 39,723 patients getting recovered yesterday. The death toll climbed to 1,35,752 with 491 new fatalities.

Maharashtra reported 6,406 new COVID-19 cases as opposed to 4,815 recoveries on Thursday. The total case tally has risen to 18,02,365 with the number of active cases climbing to 85,963. The state saw 65 deaths which took the total fatalities to 46,813.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday termed the number of COVID-19 cases in the national capital as alarming while hearing a plea challenging AAP government’s decision to reserve 80% of ICU beds for coronavirus patients in 33 private hospitals here.

The numbers, we know, are presently in an alarming state, said Justice Navin Chawla while listing the next hearing on December 9 for further consideration of the matter.

According to the government data, Delhi recorded 91 more deaths and 5,475 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally to 5,51,262. The active cases stood at 38,734.

The national capital is gearing up for the COVID-19 vaccination programme and the city’s entire population could be covered in a month if hospital staff and nurses are involved, State Immunization Officer Suresh Seth said Thursday.

“We have 600 cold storage points and around 1,800 outreach sites for the universal immunization programme for children. We have sufficient equipment for vaccines that can be stored at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and those that need minus 15 to minus 25 degrees Celsius. The central government is further strengthening the infrastructure and providing more equipment,”he added.

Kerala reported 5,378 new incidences on Thursday pushing the state’s cumulative case burden to 5,83,742. 5,970 recoveries were reported during the day taking the overall recoveries to 5,16,978. The active caseload stood at 64,497 cases. The state’s cumulative death toll rose to 2,149, with the addition of 27 more deaths.

West Bengal added 3,528 new infections after conducting 44,700 tests, pushing the total caseload to 470,498. The active infections stood at 24,670 in the state. 52 patients succumbed to the infection taking the fatalities to 8,224.

Rajasthan saw 3,180 positive cases on Thursday pushing its COVID-19 case tally to 2,56,947. Of the total caseload 27,302 are active infections at present with 2,27,408 patients getting recovered and 2,237 succumbing to the infection so far.

Uttar Pradesh added new cases at 2,094 pushing the caseload to 5,35,449. The active infections stood at 25,422 with 5,02,353 recoveries and 7,674 fatalities reported so far.

With 2,122 new COVID incidences the caseload of Haryana rose to 2,26,611. The active cases declined to 20,778 with 2,267 new recoveries and 25 new deaths.

Himachal Pradesh again saw a spike in daily cases reaching 931. The total cases rose to 37,497 with 7,878 active cases. As many as 28,993 patients have recuperated from the infection until now.14 new deaths took the total deaths to 589.

Punjab added 843 new cases pushing its case tally to 1,49,278. The active cases rose to 7,479. The total recoveries stood at 1,37,089 and the deaths totalled to 4,710.
