India’s COVID-19 death toll breaches 85,000 mark; Country confirms 91,000 new infection cases on Friday

With 1,225 new fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total COVID-19 related deaths has touched 85,657 on Friday. The country 
also confirmed 91,627 new infection cases on Friday taking the total caseload to 53,059,30 so far. According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of the active caseload of the country now stands at 10,214,80 whilst the number of recoveries continued to surge reaching 41,987,93. 

Maharashtra reported 21,656 new Covid-19 cases and 440 deaths on Friday. The state saw a record 22,078 recoveries on Friday, pushing total recoveries to 8.3 lakh and total recovery rate to 71.4%, according to the state health ministry.

Andhra Pradesh reported 8,096 new Covid-19 positive cases on Friday, taking the cumulative caseload to 6,095,58. 

Total number of Covid-19 infections in Karnataka breached the five-lakh mark on Friday, as the state reported 8,626 new cases and 179 related fatalities, taking the death toll to 7,808, the health department said. The day also saw the number of recoveries outnumbering new infections, with 10,949 patients getting discharged after recovery. Out of 8,626 fresh cases reported on Friday, 3,623 cases were from Bengaluru alone.

The number of new Covid-19 cases continued to drop in Tamil Nadu with 5,488 registered on Friday. The cumulative toll rose to 8,685 with 67 more deaths. Delhi’s Covid-19 tally breached the 2.38 lakh mark with 4,127 fresh cases on Friday. Thirty deaths were reported on the day, taking the toll to 4,907, officials said.

Kerala’s COVID-19 case count reached 1,26,381 on Friday, with the state once again reporting infections over 4000 mark reaching 4,167. The state also registered 2,744 recoveries in the last 24 hours. So far, 90,089 people recovered from the disease, while 35,724 patients are still under treatment in various hospitals across the state, Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja said in a statement.
