Day’s spike at about a lakh, active cases at a million, pandemic in India yet to show signs of stablisation

India recorded an unprecedented surge in new cases of SARS CoV-2 infection on Wednesday. With 98,100 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, the country’s active caseload has now surpassed the 10lakh mark to reach 10,154,30. While, the total number of coronavirus infection cases so far reported in the country rose to 51,162,57.

According to the Union Health Ministry, as many as 40,15,542, patients have been recuperated so far taking the recovery rate of the country to 78.5%. About 1,162 fatalities were reported on Wednesday taking the total fatalities to 83,244.

The active caseload of Maharashtra has reached 2,97,125, which is the highest by far in the country. After Maharashtra, the second highest number of active cases are reported by Karnataka at 1,01,630, followed by Andhra Pradesh at 90,279 and UP with 67,793 infections. Meanwhile, Delhi recorded its highest single-day spike in the number of COVID cases on Wednesday at 4,473.taking the tally to 2.3 lakh.

According to the ICMR, as many as 6,05,65,728 samples were tested up to 15th September for Covid-19, of these, 11,36,613 samples were tested yesterday.
