India COVID-19 tally continues with record daily spike; Death toll at 61,964

With 76,826 new confirmed cased on Thursday, India’s COVID-19 caseload continued surging rapidly and touched 3,384,575 in all as on 28, August, making it the second most affected countries in the world. The country’s COVID-19 related fatality rate, which is also rising fast has now crossed 61,694 in total, including 1,065 new deaths reported Thursday. 

Maharashtra remained the most affected state in terms of total positive cases. The state reported reported 14,718 new cases and 355 deaths on Thursday, taking its total caseload to 7,33.568 so far. The other severely affected states includes Tamil Nadu (403,242), Andhra Pradesh (3,82,469), Karnataka (309,000), and Uttar Pradesh (2,08,419). Globally, the pandemic has seen as many as 24,605,227 positive cases till date.  While more than 17,075,625 have recovered, 834,771 have died so far. The US remained the worst-hit country with 6,046,060 cases in all so far.
