India sees 65K new COVID cases on Friday; Total cases surge to 2.5 million

India reported 65,002 fresh COVID-19 cases and 996 fatalities on Friday. With this, the caseload of the nation has now risen to 2,526,192, which include 6,68,220 active cases and 1,808,936 recoveries. The Heath Ministry data shows that the death toll due to SARS CoV-2 infection in the country gone up to 49,036.

The country’s most affected state, Maharashtra reported a spike of 12,608 cases on Friday taking its total tally to 5,72,734 so far. The state reported 364 more fatalities taking the toll to reach 19,427. While, states such as Andhra Pradesh and Delhi reported 8,943 and 1,192 new cases respectively. 

Assam reported 2,706 new COVID-19 cases on Friday taking the total number of cases in the state to 74,501. The total number in the state include 49,383 recoveries, 24,940 active cases and 175 deaths, and Kerala reported 1,569 positive cases and 1,304 recoveries on the day.
