COVID-19: India reports more new cases than US and Brazil;Total tally crosses 2.26 million

India registered 53,601 new COVID positive cases on Monday. The country, which has been registering more number of new cases than the two most affected countries such as the US and Brazil in the last one week, has so far reported 2,268,675 positive cases in all. Of these 6,39,929 are active cases, while 1,583,489 people have been cured so far, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 871 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours taking the toll to 45,257. India’s total COVID-19 deaths have been more than one fifth of the global toll.    

Maharashtra reported 9,181 new cases on Monday taking the COVID tally to reach 5,24,513. With 293 deaths the toll rose to 18,050 in the state.

Andhra Pradesh reported 7,665 new cases. The total coronavirus caseload reported in the state now stands at 2,35,525. The death toll has increased to 2116 with 80 new deaths. 707 new cases reported in Delhi took the Covid-19 tally of the capital to 1,46,134 while death toll reached 4,131.

Globally, the reported COVID cases have surpassed 20 crores and now stand at 20,254,685. The U.S (5,251,446) has the highest number of reported cases followed by Brazil ( 3,057,470) and India.
