COVID-19 death toll in India crosses 40K; 56,000 new cases on Wednesday

India reported 56,000 new COVID-19 positive cases on Wednesday taking the tally to 19,64,536 so far.  With 904 new deaths registered in the past 24 hours, the SARS CoV-2 infected deaths in the country touched 40,699 already. Fortunately, the number of recoveries at 51,700, was also the highest-ever for a single day on Wednesday, according to latest data released by the Ministry of Health Affairs.

With all states consecutively reporting increasing number of new cases, the country has been reporting an average daily spike of  over 50,000 in the last couple of weeks. While three states including  Meghalaya, Sikkim and Andaman, and a Union Territory– Nicobar Islands reported less than 1000 confirmed infection cases in the country so far, Lakshadweep remained totally unaffected by the pandemic.

Globally, over 18.7 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus; over seven lakh have died so far. The  US continued to be the worst-affected followed by Brazil and India.
