COVID-19 deaths in India reach 28,132; 7.2 lakh recovers

With 593 new deaths reported in the past 24 hours, India’s total fatalities due SARS CoV-2 infection has reached 28,132 as on Monday. There were 37,009 new positive COVID cases registered in the country on Monday, while the total caseload reported in the nation has touched  11,548,19 till now.  Of these, the total active cases now stood at 4,021,46 while as many as 7,245,41 patients have been recovered, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The epidemiologists and healthcare experts however predict that the country, which is continuously witnessing an exponential growth in infection spread, will see the spike at 50,000 per day by the end of July and will peak further in August and September. While, the state governments are struggling to control the death rates even though the plans are afoot to prioritise care on severe cases. 

Maharashtra being the most affected state has 3,186,95 cases reported till now which is followed by Tamil Nadu (1,756,78) and Delhi (1,237,47). 

Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh witnessed the biggest spike in the daily cases in July among all states, according to the data from state governments. Karnataka has reported 67,420 cases so far while Andhra Pradesh has seen 53,724 cases.

July cases account for 76% of all cases in Karnataka and 71% in Andhra, followed by Assam (66%), Telangana, Kerala and Goa ( 64%), Bihar (62%), Odisha (59%) and Bengal (56%).
