Biggest single-day spike of 22,045 cases on Thursday; India COVID-19 tally crosses 6.25 lakh

With 22,045 new infection positive cases reported over the past 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 tally touched 6,25,544.  As per the data released by the Union Health Ministry today, there are 2,27,439 known active cases as of now, while 3,79,891 patients have recovered. The death toll currently stands at 18,213 with 379 more deaths reported on Thursday.  

Maharashtra saw 6,330 new infections on Thursday, adding to the total number of COVID cases in the state which now stands at 1,86,626. As many as 125 deaths were reported in the yesterday taking the toll to 8,018. A total number of patients who recovered from the disease is 1,01,172 in the state so far.

Tamil Nadu (4,343), Karnataka (1,502) and Telangana (1,213) also contributed to the spike in the total number of cases. With a total of 98392 cases, Tamil Nadu stood next to Maharashtra with the second most incidences of the infections.

Delhi recorded 2,373 cases on Thursday taking the tally to over 92,000. The Delhi Government launched India’s first plasma bank intended for COVID patients at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) yesterday. 

The total number of samples tested up to July 2 is 92,97,749 of which 2,41,576 samples were tested yesterday, announced the Indian Council of Medical Research.
