Exponential trajectory continues in new cases;  India Covid-19 tally crosses 5 lakh mark

Continued spike in daily new cases—at 18,552  in the last 24 hours– has taken the Indian COVID-19 tally 5,08,953 as on Friday. According to the data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 1,97,387 active cases while a total of 2,95,880 people have recovered so far. The death toll stands at 15,685 as of now.

With over 1,52,765 active cases Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state followed by Delhi (77,240) and Tamil Nadu (74,622).

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has announced that over 50,000 antigen-based rapid test kits have been supplied to the Delhi Government for supporting the COVID-19 containment efforts. The apex body has said that it has already supplied diagnostic material for carrying out 4.7 lakh RT-PCR tests to12 functional labs in Delhi, so far.
