India may start Covid vaccination of children in the 12-18 age group by the end of July or first week of August, said Dr N K Arora, the head of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI), the government’s Covid working group.
“Trial for Zydus Cadila vaccine is almost complete. By July end or in August, we might be able to start administering this vaccine to children of 12-18 age group,” he said.
Emphasising the need to scale up vaccination for all Dr Arora said that the people who have got at least one dose of vaccination fared considerably better.
“The new strain of the virus that is in circulation now has a greater affinity for lung tissues, though whether it causes damage or not is not clear yet. It also does not mean that this variant will cause more severe disease or it is more transmissible,” he said in a media interview.
