Brain processes negative smells first as a quick alert against potential threat

The details of this latest study states that the signals of smell, especially stink, typically reach the brain within 100 to 150 milliseconds after being inhaled through the nose, which takes up about five percent of the brain and enables the mammals to distinguish between many million different smells. Of these, a significant proportion are associated with a threat to their health and survival.
